The Weekend Preview 03/09/2022

Welcome to the weekend preview. It is the last Saturday without a group 1 until mid November but there are plenty of good horses in action this week.

Moonee Valley

Race 1 - 3yo 1500m Hcp

A pretty open race here. Major Beel probably my top seed as he has been the most consistent horse here and is coming from benchmark grade. Castillan has been very consistent at 3yo Hcp grade. Elegant Diva was good on debut but breeding typically does not suggest a step up in trip will help. Red Sun Sensation was solid enough last start.

Betting Strategy: No bet but I do not mind Major Beel

Race 2 - Open 2040m Hcp

Midnight Blue was solid behind some good horses last start and meets a worse field here with the same weight. The Valley can be a tough track at first go though. Desert Icon probably sits near the speed which would suit the Valley. Mohican was solid enough this track, trip and grade last start. Irish Flame was also solid last start. Prix De Turn was solid enough behind Jimmy The Bear.

Betting Strategy: No Bet

Race 3 - 3yo 1200m SW+P

Millane was really strong last start behind Alpha One and Giga Kick but the Valley may prove to be challenging. Shalaman however should be suited by the track, was good last start behind Fast Witness and was 3.8L off Alpha One which actually seems to be good form. He has also shown a liking to the Valley. A clear top 2. Sebonack was poor last start but had decent enough 2yo form. Probably an inferior field here though. Amenable beat Jamarra at his first start and this start will provide more infor.

Betting Strategy: No bet but considered quinella.

Race 4 - G2 Feehan Stakes 1600m WFA

Mr Brightside was solid enough first up and meets a poor field here. Small fields can do weird things though with tempo. Earlswood and Inspirational Girl are both good horses but jury is out on them being WFA quality, even against a Mr Brightside. Sound and Spanish Mission both have ran well 1st up before.

Betting Strategy: 1 unit Mr Brightside

Race 5 - G2 McEwen Stakes 1000m WFA

There is a lot of speed in this race so I am not sure what to make of it. Zoustyle likes the wet, likes the short course and clearly has ability. Rothfire is the best horse in this race and has been trialling well but feel he may go better 2nd up. In The Congo has been trialling well. Coolangatta has trialled unreal and could be anything but this is a very strong and fast field so she will need to deliever on the hype and I am willing to take her on here. Away Game and The Inferno cannot be disrespected, particularly with this much speed.

Betting Strategy: No bet but a very interesting watch race.

Race 6 - LR Atlantic Jewel Stakes 1200m 3yoF SW+P

Troach beat Opal Ridge and was competitive in a Rosebud. Lady Laguna ran well in the Quezette. Imlovingya was also strong in that race. Revolutionary Miss was very poor in Sydney but was trialling well.

Betting Strategy: No bet.

Race 7 - LR Chatauqua Stakes 1200m Hcp

Ranges was strong behind a very promising type. Prince of Boom also brings down Queensland form and likes the wet but first go anti-clockwise. Calypso Reign won a G3 last start and carries a low weight here. Can measure up. Wandabaa was close in a G2 last start and probably prefers to be fresh. Catalyst resumes here and at his peak, would be the best horse in this race but he has not ran in 2 years.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Race 8 - Open 1600m Hcp

So Si Bon was very good last start and it took a good one to beat him. I will be sticking with him here. Uncle Bryn was good at WFA last start and carries little weight here and is a fair favourite. Military Expert was good in Melbourne last start but meets a stronger field here. Also is pretty untested at the distance 0/1 placings. Shot Of Irish was given a shocker of a ride last start but may want it wetter.

Betting Strategy: So Si Bon 0.25 Unit Win

Race 9 - BM78 1600m Hcp

He's Our Bonneval has been running in tougher races and has a good claimer on board. Unusual Culture was performing strongly in NZ but is yet to perform well in mares grade here. Another go at the trip could be good. The two moody runners are my next two.

Betting Strategy: No Bet

Randwick

Race 1 - Highway 1200m Hcp

Opal Ridge is my top tip here. She is dropping back from G2 3yo fillies grade which may not be the strongest group grade but is enough to certainly be above this standard (I would think). Participator probably the best of the horses that came from the highway races. Prince Nicconi had a strong win on the Sapphire Coast and So Country has been running well in Highway class races.

Betting Strategy: Opal Ride 1 Unit Win

Race 2 - Midway 1800m Hcp

Too hard to read IMO. Microna, Navajo Peak, Scorched Land into Bella Violet. In that order. Apologies for lack of effort but no point assessing when I provide little help.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Race 3 - BM78 1100m F&M Hcp

Another race I am struggling to read. Duchy of Savoy, Jal Lei, Shihonka and Rubinocchi.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Race 4 - LR Tatts Club Cup 2400m Hcp

Realm Of Flowers is the clear best horse in the race. Yes, he is carrying 57.5kgs at WFA (3.5kgs more than some of his rivals) but if she is at her best, that will easily be enough to take down this field. The wet track helps but she may need one more run as her first up run was very average. Raging Bull was awesome the start prior and jumps straight to a trip to suit. Through Irish Eyes has been super consistent, jumping in standard but this is about as strong as an open Vic hcp. Cadre Du Noir jumps in standard here but was good the start prior.

Betting Strategy: Realm of Flowers 0.25 units win, 0.75 units place.

Race 5 - G3 Concorde Stakes 1000m SW+P

Eduardo is too good. That simple, yes, others here are performing well but he should be taking care of this field. Andermatt loves a first up wet run and does meet him 4.5kgs better but that is around 2 lengths and I think Eduardo is better than him by over 2 lengths. Zapateo was good last start and Shelby Sixtysix is being underrated by the market here. Trialling well, 1000m and strikes a wet deck. Malkovich cannot be discounted

Betting Strategy: Eduardo 1 unit win

Race 6 - G2 Furious Stakes 1200m SW

In Secret was very good last start and unlucky not to win. She's Extreme loves the wet but may want a bit further. Her autumn campaign also may have taken something out of her. Paris Dior also appears to enjoy the wet. North Star Lass was strong last start.

Betting Strategy: In Secret 1 unit win

Race 7 - G2 Tramway Stakes 1400m SW+P

Converge is my tip here. Trialling well and does not mind the wet. Profondo was really strong last start. Zaaki has trialled well but I am convinced he is not the same contest. Icebath does love the wet and could surprise.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Race 8 - G2 Chelmsford Stakes 1600m WFA

Montefilia is the best horse in this race and the and the wet will help her presuming she is fit enough as she will have other targets. If Mo'Unga was not so poor last start, I would be more keen on him here. Yes, he was held up at a crucial time but he did not run well. Benaud was very good last start and looks to be n for a good prep. Surefire was strong last star and 200m helps but this is a stronger field.

Betting Strategy: No bet.

Race 9 - BM78 1200m Hcp

This is taking too long to get out so I'll be quick. Silent Impact, Arbitration, Starman and Pioneer River. In that order.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Race 10 - BM94 1600m Hcp

Wicklow, Niffler, Paternal and Opacity.

Betting Strategy: No bet

Betting Strategy

MV R4: Mr Brightside 1 unit win

MV R8: So Si Bon 0.25 units win

Rand R1: Opal Ridge 1 unit win

Rand R4: Realm of Flowers 0.25 units win, 0.75 units place

Rand R5: Eduardo 1 unit win
